CAPTAINS REPORT OF LONDON CLUB MEETING  6 MAY 2021

I  thought our first meeting of the year was a great success.

Despite the starter explaining that things would be a lot easier for us due to the slow growth of the primary and secondary rough, I still found enough challenges to satisfy me! And, whilst a lot of the course was quite moderately set up in terms of risk / reward, I thought the holes incorporating water were particularly thought-provoking and you really had to consider whether to go for it or lay-up, regardless of the par on the card.

Some fared better than others and Mel Wright won the day with a very respectable 41 points for which he was awarded the Pullen Cup. Not too surprisingly, he also headed the scoring on the Par 3 challenge and won that too - Irish Rose Bowl. Well done also to Chris Warrick for achieving the longest drive on the 18th and to Dave Barnard for closest to the Pin on the 8th.

The London Club did all they could to make us welcome and went to great lengths to accommodate our various requirements when doing the scoring for us. The food was more than adequate but, I'm sure, would have been even more enjoyable had the sun shone more and the wind abated on that wind-swept terrace. As it was, I don't think I was the only one happy to get back into a car and put the heating on.

We had a full complement of 24 players on the day and it was nice to welcome two new members (Tony Abbott and Luke Fincham) together with three guests (Scott Evans, Jim Spicer and David Binns).

Our next meeting is at Thorndon Park on June 22nd. Mel Wright will be hosting the day in my absence, but I look forward to seeing you all at Swinley Forest.
